Hey Billie, you there? Happy Record Store Day! To celebrate one of the biggest events of the year for independent record stores, Charli xcx and Billie Eilish released a special 7" vinyl single for their iconic 2024 collaboration "Guess". It was one of my most anticipated releases for this year and I'm so happy to have it in my collection!
There were only 10,000 copies of this vinyl pressed worldwide and sold exclusively at independent record stores in April 2025. It is a classic black pressing with the iconic shade of brat green as the center label. The disc itself is overall very minimalist, with no markings at all on either side of the center label. Like all of the vinyl from the BRAT era, there is a sticker closing the record that needs to be cut open very carefully. This is one of two special releases Charli released this year to celebrate independent record stores.
It is housed in a cardboard sleeve, which is so different than any other record sleeve I've seen before. As much as I would have loved a picture sleeve for this release, I do really love the look of the bold typography printed on it. The metallic silver pop from the sticker is also a cool added design touch.
I absolutely love collecting both Billie and Charli's music on vinyl, so this pressing gives me the best of both worlds! This is the second Charli 7" single I have in my collection, the first being a copy of the solo version of "Guess" with another bonus track, "Spring Breakers". I've especially loved collecting the BRAT era vinyl over the past year and can't wait to add more to my collection soon! I have many 7" vinyl pressings of Billie's music, and this is a wonderful addition to that ever-growing section of my collection!

"Guess" is definitely the biggest hit of the entire BRAT era, although there are so many tracks that have had really impactful cultural moments throughout the past year. This remix is also such a shining moment off of her innovative BRAT remix album, brat and it's completely different but also still brat.
What Charli did with both of these albums is so revolutionary for pop music. It has been so incredible to witness the magic of it all unfold and see Charli have this massive moment with her career. With the remix album, she took the concept of every single song on BRAT and completely transformed it into something brand new. It takes the idea that every song's concept, or even just song title, can have so many different lives that can be (and should be) explored further than just the original version of it. The "Guess" remix featuring Billie is one of the biggest highlights of that album and I'm so happy they finally collaborated. Billie is so brat and she's the absolute perfect addition to this track!
"Guess" is so different than anything Billie has ever made and somehow it suits her so perfectly. It is also so rare for her to collaborate with other artists and producers, so this was so cool to see her and Finneas experiment a bit on this track. She matches Charli's energy so perfectly on her verse as she sings, "Don't have to guess the color of your underwear, already know what you've got goin' on down there". One of the most iconic lines of the remix is, "Charli likes boys, but she knows I'd hit it," at the end of Billie's verse, "Charli, call me if you're with it". It is all just meant to be very funny and playful and so unserious - which are all of the reasons why it's so great!
Side A features the iconic Billie remix and side B features the original solo version. The solo version was first released as a part of the expanded brat and its the same but there's three more songs so its not - with that title, she's nothing if not direct! Charli worked on it with rising New York-based producer The Dare. It very much fits into the universe of both BRAT and The Dare's solo music too, with it being very wild and explicit party music. I have loved the music they've made together and would love to see them continue to collaborate on whatever the next chapter brings for Charli musically. She sings, "You wanna guess the color of my underwear, really wanna know what I got goin on down there". It's very playful lyrically and seamlessly blends both of the distinct New York and London club cultures into one.
Finneas was approached by one of Charli's collaborators backstage at her show asking if he and Billie would want to work together one day. Within a few days, Billie and Finneas recorded this track, sent it back, and two days later she recorded the music video with Charli. Within a week, the song was released, and the rest is history! "It was the craziest, fastest - like, that is the dream." Billie said in an interview with Vanity Fair.
Upon first listen, the beginning of the remix feels very much like the original with Charli's familiar verse. That is, until she delivers the iconic line, "Eat it up for lunch, yeah, it's so delicious," referencing Billie's 2024 track "Lunch". This clever nod immediately grabs your attention and signals the shift in tone that defines the remix. From that point onward, the song takes on an all new and fresh energy for the track.
One of my absolute favorite moments in the song is the back-and-forth exchange where they repeat "guess guess guess guess" in the final verse. It's such a dynamic part of the song that perfectly captures the cheeky confidence this track exudes. The final verse is so amazing too as they both playfully say: "You wanna guess what me and Billie have been texting about? (We've been disrespectful), You're tryna guess the password to my Google Drive? (Are you obsessed with me?), You wanna guess the address of the party we're at? (You know you're not invited)". Charli finishes with the iconic line, "You want to guess if we're serious about this song?"

I had the chance to hear this song live at Billie's show in New York City last year, which was literally one of the greatest live experiences I've ever witnessed. The room went dark and Charli appeared on the screens saying her iconic line "Hey Billie, you there?". The first verse of the "Guess" music video then played on the screen as the arena was illuminated by brat green strobe lights everywhere. The crowd went so crazy for the first verse of "Guess" as if Charli herself was actually there, the energy in the room that night was just the most insane thing to experience! When it came time for Billie's verse, she popped out of a small B stage like a toaster at the other end of the arena when Charli sang the "eat it up for lunch, yeah it's so delicious" lyric. There were so many parts of the show that I loved so so so much, but that was absolutely one of my favorite moments of the night. The energy in the room was so electric, I will never forget it! The instrumental break after Billie's verse was the best too. Let me tell you, brat summer was alive and well that night at Madison Square Garden!
Charli and Billie are undeniably two of the coolest and most innovative figures in music today. I have always admired them for how they are unabashedly themselves in everything they do and create, while also being unafraid to let loose and have fun on a track like this. Seeing them unite for this collaboration feels like pure magic - a moment that perfectly captures the essence of brat summer!
