the coffee's out at the Beachwood Cafe // Los Angeles: July 2024
On my recent trip to Los Angeles back in July, one of the most anticipated destinations was finally getting to visit the iconic Beachwood Cafe! This cute restaurant is located in historic Beachwood Canyon, which is the neighborhood right below The Hollywood Sign. It is also referenced in Harry Styles' song "Falling", which is a beautiful ballad that truly feels like the heart of Fine Line to me. He sings, "and the coffee's out at the Beachwood Cafe, and it kills me 'cause I know we've run out of thing we can say".
I love visiting places that represent a piece of music history, or places that inspired some of my favorite songs, even if it's just in a small way like this! It's one of my favorite topics to research anytime I'm travelling. Of course, the amount of music and art that was made in and inspired by the city of Los Angeles is literally endless, it's impossible to even scratch the surface of it in one trip alone. So much of Fine Line is very rooted in the sounds and aesthetics of Los Angeles, specifically Laurel Canyon in the 1960's and 1970's. That album was on repeat for me all week when I was there. We also got to drive around Laurel Canyon earlier in the week and it's another one of my favorite parts of the city too.
Ever since I first heard that lyric from "Falling", I knew I had to visit the Beachwood Cafe on my next trip to LA. My family and I went for breakfast on the last day of our trip, which was the perfect way to close out such a great week.
Obviously ordering coffee at the Beachwood Cafe was a major highlight of the trip! lol
If you know anything about me, it's that I am a massive fan of Harry and Fine Line is also one of my favorite albums ever, so getting to visit a place that was mentioned in one of the best songs on the album was such a cool experience. Also the food was really great too, it was easily the best place we ate the entire week and I can't wait to go back!
Even if you don't care about the Harry Styles lore of the song, Beachwood Cafe is one of my biggest recommendations for anyone to visit when going to Los Angeles. It is located in Beachwood Canyon, which is the original Hollywoodland neighborhood. There is so much history surrounding it, it is such a beautiful part of the city. The view is also so amazing, there's nothing else like it! The cafe is just a couple of minutes away from Lake Hollywood Park, which has some of the best views of The Hollywood Sign in the entire city. We went there after and it was one of the highlights of the entire trip.
In honor of the five-year anniversary since "Falling" and the rest of Fine Line was released, I thought it would be fun to share some of the polaroids I took at the Beachwood Cafe! I took a ton of film photos on this trip, it's always an essential for me to bring my camera everywhere I go. This is just a little glimpse into how great this week was! ☕ If you visit, don't forget to try their coffee!
Another essential for me was seeing the iconic "Do You Know Who You Are?" and "Treat People With Kindness" signs on Hollywood Boulevard. We drove by it on our first day there, but later in the week we walked down there to get some close-up pictures in front of it too! It's very close to Grauman's Chinese Theater, so if you're visiting that area be sure to look out for it on the other side of the street.
The two songs that those phrases are taken from, "Lights Up" and "Treat People With Kindness", are some of my favorites of all time. This was the site of a limited pop-up shop Harry held there in late 2019 when the album was released. All these years later the signs are still up! Those are all really important mantras to hold on to, regardless of if you know the songs that inspired them or not. Five years later, I guess they have become a (hopefully) permanent fixture on Hollywood Boulevard now, which I love.

If you're planning on going to LA, feel free to let me know if you want any recommendations on places to go! I was lucky enough to go to Los Angeles for the first time for my 18th birthday in 2017 and I have been dreaming of getting to go back ever since. My family and I had such an incredible time the entire week and got to see so much of the city and go to so many places we have never been before. I loved planning both trips and have found so many great gems in the city that I'd love to share.
I have written about Fine Line many times over the years, including a new five-year anniversary review, which I would love for you to check out. I was also lucky enough to hear the entirety of the album live a few different times for Love on Tour in New York City, which I also wrote all about here. Those were some of the greatest concert experiences of my life. For more Harry Styles related posts check out some of the links below!
