The Best Songs of October 2024 // New Music Friday!
"I Believe In Magic" // Halsey
I honestly can't even begin to process Halsey's latest album, The Great Impersonator, but it truly did break my heart into a million pieces. It went places I couldn't have ever imagined and left me in tears from beginning to end. I forever am so inspired by their bravery to put out their heaviest and deepest work yet into the world. It's hard to choose just one track that stood out to me, but for the sake of this list, I wanted to highlight "I Believe In Magic". This song is dedicated to her son and her love for him. It is one of many deeply emotional moments on this record and I honestly already feel forever changed by the rest of The Great Impersonator. I'll save the rest of my thoughts for my upcoming review, but for now all I can say is I'm so happy she's still here with us & this album is proof of her continued strength. ⭐️✨️
"Everything is romantic featuring caroline polachek" // Charli xcx & Caroline Polachek
brat summer may be over, but brat autumn is in full swing with the release of Charli's incredible remix album! Simply calling it a remix album though is doing a disservice to how incredible and one of a kind the entirety of Brat and it's completely different but also still brat is. Every single song is a completely brand-new experience than the original album, featuring an incredible group of collaborators on every song. One that really stuck with me is "Everything is romantic" featuring Caroline Polachek. I never heard a song quite like it before and was so moved by the level of complex introspection and deep emotions that are portrayed from both Charli and Caroline. It's also a really interesting look into Charli's life post-brat and everything that has changed for her following the massive success she has been experiencing this year. The song also features gorgeous and lush production, making it one of the stand-out tracks from the record.

"Starfucker" // Finneas
Finneas' sophomore album For Cryin' Out Loud! has been an album I've been looking forward to hearing for months and it quickly became another one of my top favorites released this year. There were several songs I debated including on this list, but I ultimately chose the opener "Starfucker", which is a sharply written and scathing piano ballad. Starting an album with a song like this wouldn't have necessarily been the obvious choice, but it really was the perfect decision and sets such a strong tone for the rest of the album. It is also just such a cool and evocative title for a song too.
I also had a chance to see him perform with his sister, Billie Eilish, earlier this month at her show in New York City which was the most exciting and surreal experience that I am going to be sharing more about soon! I'm also working on a full in-depth review of For Cryin' Out Loud! which will be up soon too! ✨
"Soft Kissing Hour" // Nat & Alex Wolff
I also had the most incredible experience seeing Nat & Alex Wolff open for Billie Eilish at Madison Square Garden earlier this month too! I'm still working on my full post about how amazing the entire night was but I will say now that this was one of, if not the very best, concert I have been to in my life. Nat & Alex were truly so amazing live and easily the best opener at any show I have ever been to as well. This month they also released their beautiful new single "Soft Kissing Hour", which was also features Billie as the producer and backing vocalist. I believe this is also the first time she ever produced a song outside of her own work, which is a really cool direction for her to be going in. This song was such a special part of Nat & Alex's set, they somehow made an arena full of thousands of people feel so small and intimate in those moments.
"Aquamarine" // Addison Rae
Oh Addison Rae - the star that you are! I have said this again and again, but Addison is such an exciting new voice in pop music that I am so excited to continue to see blossom as an artist in the future! "Aquamarine" is a great follow up to one of my favorite songs this summer, "Diet Pepsi". It also reminds me of "Breathe On Me" or "Make Me" by Britney Spears, with a hint of Madonna. She embodies those influences and makes them sound so fresh and modern in a way all her own.
"Disease" // Lady Gaga
"Disease" feels like a true return to form for Gaga, almost as if this is the sister of a song like "Bad Romance" blended with the style of Chromatica. I am really looking forward to hearing more from her with this exciting new era of her career!
"Sober" // Bartees Strange
I had the amazing opportunity to hear this song live back in June when I saw Bartees live at the Shadow of the City festival in Asbury Park, NJ. At the show he announced that he worked on the song with Jack Antonoff, and I have been looking forward to getting to hear it again ever since. Bartees Strange is such a talented artist that I am so happy to have discovered his music this year!
"Man of the House" // Rachel Zegler
Rachel Zegler is now starring in the new Broadway adaptation of Romeo + Juliet, which opened earlier this month. "Man of the House" is the first of the original songs that was released from the play and I was blown away by her incredible vocals and the story being told throughout. Sonically it also reminds me of Red Hearse, which is such a cool inspiration to be drawing from for the musical direction of this show with Jack Antonoff's score. I hope to get to hear it in person on Broadway one day, but until then I will be loving the bits of the soundtrack that have been released!
"Bigger In Texas" // Megan Thee Stallion
Megan Thee Stallion recently released the second part of her self-titled album MEGAN, which featured several additional bonus tracks. I love how different overall it is from the first act of her recent album and "Bigger In Texas" is such a standout for me.
I have a lot of exciting new album reviews that I'm working on right now that will be up soon, I hope you'll come back to check em out! So much incredible new music has been released over the past few weeks, many of which quickly made it to the top of my favorite albums released this entire year. I'm looking forward to sharing more soon!
