Camila Cabello
Gigi & Bella Hadid
H.E.R.
Lil Nas X
Shawn Mendes
Keke Palmer
Miley Cyrus
Taylor Swift opening the show with a medley of "You Need To Calm Down" & "Lover" was definitely my favorite performance of the night! She even brought some of the people from the "You Need To Calm Down" music video on stage with her, too! "Lover" is one of my favorite songs off of her new album, so I loved that she performed it live for the first time at the VMAs. The visuals for her performance were also so stunning!
Miley Cyrus' emotional performance of her new song "Slide Away" was another highlight of the night. I love to see the way she has transformed as an artist in the past few years when looking back at her previous performances at the VMAs. "Slide Away" is one of her best songs and truly shows off her songwriting skills and wide range of vocals.
While there was a few other fun moments throughout the show, the VMAs are known to create iconic pop culture moments year after year, but this year felt a little lackluster. While there was a couple of great performances, most of them weren't anything revolutionary or memorable. One of the biggest issues with this year's VMAs was that several of the biggest artists of the past year weren't there - the most notable being Ariana Grande and Billie Eilish, both of which were the highest nominated artists of the night. "Thank U, Next" & "Bad Guy" are also two of the biggest songs and most watched music videos of 2019, so for neither of them to be there to perform was a major drawback for the show. If Ariana and/or Billie were there, the show probably would've been more memorable.
Thanks for reading! Leave a comment below what your favorite fashion moments were from this year's VMA red carpet & if you watched the show, let me know what your favorite performances were! ♡
