Gucci Mémoire d'une Odeur // Review
Mémoire d'une Odeur is Gucci's latest fragrance designed to "...explore the power of memories, bringing them back from the past and making them live in the present." This is the first universal fragrance from the brand and the third curated by Alessandro Michele, designer and director of Gucci. He has been the director at Gucci since 2015 and has done an incredible job at modernizing the brand in many ways, but most notably with his eccentric and innovative designs. I was excited to hear that he curated this fragrance, as well!
I never tried any of Gucci's fragrances before, but just from testing them in stores I can tell that they have a wide range of different scents that would appeal to many, paired with minimal and luxe packaging. Mémoire d'une Odeur fits really well in the Gucci fragrance lineup in that regard!
Gucci Mémoire d'une Odeur retails for $74 (1.3 oz), $95 (2 oz) and $120 (3.3 oz) at Ulta, Sephora, Macy's, Neiman & Marcus, and anywhere else Gucci fragrances are sold. A rollerball is also available for $34 (.25 oz). I purchased mine at Ulta in a box set around the holidays, so it was actually discounted and came with a travel size bottle and a beautiful gift box. I would recommend buying it at Ulta, if you can, because a few times a year they have sales on all of their fragrances that can be combined with your reward points - it ended up being about half off the original price when I got mine! I couldn't find a link to the exact box set that I have, but I did see it was available in stores at Sephora a few weeks ago.
“Everything comes from my obsession with scents: my memory is primarily olfactive so, for me, my sense of smell is my memory. I thought that, deep down, perfume is that thing that even with your eyes closed, brings you to a precise moment in space and time. When we began to work on Gucci Mémoire d’une Odeur, I tried to imagine the recollection of a scent that couldn’t easily be identified; a hybrid scent that resembles memory as much as possible."

Fragrance Notes:
Top: Roman chamomile, bitter almond
Middle: coral jasmine, jasmine petals, musks
Base: vanilla, cedarwood, sandalwood
I've been using this fragrance for the past three months, and it has quickly become my absolute favorite! The scent is so beautiful and is very different than any other fragrance I've ever used before, but there is still a sense of familiarity with it too. Just one spray of this perfume is more than enough to last all day, which is great considering how expensive it is. It can be quite potent if you apply too much, but it isn't overbearing or heavy at all.
The notes of vanilla, musk and sandalwood make this fragrance smell very warm - while the floral notes balance it out nicely. If you ever tired anything from the Gucci Bloom line and felt that the floral notes were too strong, this may be a better option instead since it is more toned down. The Roman chamomile is also a prominent note, which creates a comforting mixture with the vanilla. The opulent blend of every layer is truly so special.
I have noticed that this smells different when sprayed directly on the skin instead of on a paper tester in the stores too, not in a bad way, but I much prefer the way it smells when I apply it on myself. Everyone's body chemistry is different though, so you may have a different experience with it. Like any fragrance, I would recommend smelling it in person before buying!

The packaging is so beautiful, as well! It was inspired by a vintage Gucci perfume bottle, which fits so well with the nostalgic theme of this product and stands out amongst new perfume releases from comparable brands. The design of the gold cap reminds me of the new Gucci Beauty lipsticks that were also inspired by vintage beauty products. The seafoam green glass bottle with gold detailing looks and feels so luxurious and is very eye-catching amongst the other beauty products on my shelf.
The box it came in also has a beautiful green marbled design with embedded gold stars, which fits so well with the overall theme and campaign. When it comes to luxury fragrances, the packaging is often an important aspect of the experience and with Mémoire d'une Odeur, I can tell how much time went into the design of this bottle and conceptualizing a story around it.

Gucci's Mémoire d'une Odeur has quickly become my favorite fragrance over the past few months! This unique blend is likely to appeal to so many different people, regardless of their varying preferences in fragrance. I truly can't recommend it enough!
